Recently, the plans were unveiled for the four other buildings that will complement the Freedom Tower in the rebuilt World Trade Center. What I want to know is when the media is going to stop calling it “Ground Zero”? It’s weird that the media (always self-obsessed and patronizing) felt the need in the first place to dub the site of this terrorist attack with a name originally coined to mean the site of a nuclear explosion. However, it is even more weird that the same media (always trying to tell us what to think and how to say it) is insistent that we keep using that negative term. Maybe it made some sort of sense to call it Ground Zero on the day of and in the immediate aftermath of the attacks but not now…five years later. Just yesterday on the air Larry King referred to the construction site behind him as “what used to be the World Trade Center”. Life is returning to those 16 acres of lower Manhattan and as the new buildings rise it is high time we go back to referring to that place by what it actually is: The World Trade Center.

Ever sense September eleventh I have pondered about what they will do with the site of the World Trade Center.  The other day I was wondering the same thing the person who wrote this article was thinking, when is it no longer ground zero?  Although i don’t necessarily agree with putting a new building up on the site but i do feel that something needs to be put there in remembrance and in hopes that this new building or memorial will change the name of the site.  I also have wondered when 9-11 will become a national holiday?  It’s been 5 years sense the planes crashed into the centers.  Is it to early to make it a holiday?  I feel something more official needs to take place in annual remembrance of September 11.

As a business education major, I try to keep up on whats going on in the business world.  CNN offers a outstading site with nothing but business new such as stock and real estate information.

We have our secrets and our needs to confess. We may remember how, in childhood, adults were able to look right through us, and into us, and what an accomplishment what was when we, in fear and trembling, could tell our first lie…

R.D. Laing gave this quote in The Divided Self.  When we think back we may be able to remember our first lie or at least a lie that stands out in our minds.  Often times people lie so much that they themselves begin to believe its true.  I myself can remember times i have lied to my parents and in convincing them that it was the truth i convinced my self the same.  Although lying isn’t always harmful or dangerous it often times causes problems in relationships and or problems with the law.  Breakups and divorce from my personal experience see to happen most often due to a lie or untruest in one another. 

Lies get us out of trouble usually.  We often do something we don’t want some one else to find out about so we lie about where we were or who we were with.  Fear leads us to lie.  I remember lying to my mother about sleeping over a friends house when I was in middle school but i really went to my girl friends.  This was a big mistake not only because she found out but I also wasn’t ready for spending the night with a girl!

Is keeping a secret lying.  I always wasn’t sure about this.  Am i lying to my parents if I have a little secret i don’t want them to know about?  I’m not sure what my opinion is on secrets but i don’t think most of them are harmful.

We need to be careful about who we lie to and how often we do it.  It’s not worth hurting the people around us.
